Happy Monday everyone! Since it's the start of the work week, I thought I would put up an outfit I would wear to work....something professional, yet fun.

Many years ago, I used to work as a bank teller. All of my co-workers would wear slacks and button ups, so I thought I had to also. I would wear the most awful, ill-fitting slacks and shirts because I couldn't justify spending money on work wear that I didn't like. I just thought that was the way it was. I never knew that you could show your personality through your clothing and still be fashionable at work. I thought that there was some specific dress code I had to follow and I think that many young women feel the same starting out in the work world. What an epiphany I had many years later! I learned that, yes, you can still look stylish and be work appropriate. I also learned that fit does matter. No longer will I force myself to wear unflattering garments because I feel that it's something I have to do.

Now I am very quiet, shy person until I get to know people. However, that is not the case with my wardrobe. My style personality is very much noticed, which is so funny because being the center of attention is very awkward for me sometimes. It has taken me such a long time to be confident in my body and who I am as a person, but I have always been confident in what I wear. My clothing says so much without me having to speak at all. It's my form of communication to others. With all the creatively I have flowing through my veins, I cannot just dress like "everyone else." I like to experiment, stand out and be different. That's what makes each person unique and interesting. In the past, I have had jobs with strict dress codes or jobs that require uniforms and I feel very fortunate at this point in my life to be able to dress how I want for work and let my creatively flow instead of keeping it bottled up.

Speaking of such...this outfit is demure, yet so interesting. I just love this style dress, especially with the lace detailing. The fit is so very flattering and the length is ideal. I topped it with a black polka dot coat to add some pizzaz and a mustard yellow shoe with a bow on the side. All accessories were kept simple to give a neat, clean look.

  1. Such a gorgeous dress, love dots a lot :)) I am the same, very quiet and shy until I get to know people. I do have moments of the opposite, but it's rare. You look wonderful...hope you have a great start to the week doll xx

  2. Oh, wow, I just feel the same like you...like I'm a shy person and all, but what I wear is quite noticeable which is quite ironic. Hehe. Anyway, love your outfit, specially the shoes! ♥♥

  8. Interesting post. I think some people are too stressed at their job to care how they dress and some just don't care. Which is a shame because, like you said, clothes are a way to express oneself.
Love the coat. It's adorable! xo

  11. Love everything about this! I totally get you on the work clothes front--I try to buy shirts and pants in bright colors to mix in my style a little, but lately I've just been switching to dresses. Nearly all of my dresses can be justified as work-appropriate, and none are boring :)
